Tinderstick

28 Feb

I’ve been craving new music lately (hence the recent stream of blog posts!) and Tindersticks sated my ears just wonderfully. A youtube session i quite happily danced down, and now all the albums are in my amazon wishlist!! The vocals are glorious and the instrumentals are goosebump worthy. Here are a few of my favourites:

I love the video for Medicine, it’s a beautiful little insight into their world.

say goodbye to the city

The Fire of Autumn

Angel Echoes

27 Feb

Following on from yesterday’s chilled out post… here lies Four Tet with more beautiful background sounds.

Another recent addition to my CD pile and oh so wonderfully listened to on repeat in the bath with copious quantities of tea…

Angel Echoes was my first and is ultimately my favourite.

Plastic People

Unspoken

Stress Free

26 Feb

After a recommendation from a friend a few weeks ago i have rather fallen in love with The XX

The music is beautifully chilled and makes for the best relaxing background noise…. and that’s coming from a stressed out jeweller in the lead up to her degree show! so it’s as zen as it comes!!

The video for Angels is one of my favourites, like the music it exudes peace and serenity… and is more than a little gloriously trippy; like a landscape in a dream.

Islands

Crystalised…. his voice…. ugh…… *melts*…..

Enjoy…….

Two Doors Down

14 Feb

I wish i was in love with a girl who lived two doors down… i wish i was in love…

I’ve had this song on repeat for the past week or so, it’s wonderful, and seeing as it is that oh so sickening commercialization of love day it seems rather appropriate to post today!

I love how fantastically shit the video is, it’s brilliant. I feel like i should watch it with a kind of car crash embarrassment but i can’t help but find it really cool! and am now more than a little attracted to this band!

Seeing as it’s also my birthday today, have a bonus tune!

Happy Valentine’s Day 🙂

Twist so fine…

5 Feb

An old classic but it’s still getting me out of bed and making me twist my naked arse around my bedroom in the morning…

John Grant

Amanda Palmer posted a link to this video a few days ago, and i’m so glad she did because it is beautiful.

This guy’s voice; powerful, soft and soul-touching.

And the lyrics. “This pain. It is a glacier moving through you.” and “Don’t listen to anyone; get answers on your own. Even if it means that sometimes you feel quite alone. No one on this planet can tell you what to believe. People like to talk a lot, and they like to deceive.” Ughhh…

So, down the youtube hole i descend and here are my favourites…

I really love this video. It’s simple but so wonderful…… “You could be laughing 65% more of the time…

A new artist to add to my list of favourites. Brilliant.

Snake Hips

18 Jan

The most recent CD to find it’s way off my pile and into my ears is Avicii’s True.

Beautiful.

I bought it because i loved this song (and now i also love the video too. Adorable, beautiful and bittersweet (perhaps a little cliche and tired imagery but on the whole a good music video), with twist ending that ranks it from good to very good!).

And from one song to another, i think i love the whole album! It’s rare to buy a record and like all the tracks. A new music love indeed.

I’m dancing along to all of the songs… but this one so much more than most! the bit, the bit with the song, ughhh and the whipcrack…. srsly try and stop me twirling my hips to this beauty.

If you want to be free, be free.

5 Oct

This is my new favourite thing on the internet.

I’ve watched every morning for the past two weeks.

It is the best get-out-of-bed-and-start-your-day-with-something-awesome song!

The original song, by Cat Stevens, is played during the credits and all credit is due to him this song (and yes i know this sounds horrendously cheesy) speaks to my soul! And for me, watching Amanda Palmer play through a bunch of her wonderful fans, in glorious ninja stylings, to the tune of the ocean in the fading sunlight is heart-breakingly beautiful perfection.

p.s. Amanda i do want be you. If i wish for it hard enough do you think it will happen?!

Amanda Palmer – HMV Picture House, Edinburgh – 17.7.2013

22 Jul

On Wednesday i donned my wonderful TARDIS skirt and headed out to see Amanda Fucking Palmer!

I hadn’t been to a concert in a while and this was certainly the one to get me back into the swing of it! As ever, everything was wonderful: from her brilliant supports (Horndog Brass Band, Jherek Bischoff, Simple Pleasure and Bitter Ruin), to sweaty jumping around to Nirvana covers, to making cute new friends in the crowd and all the bits of glitter in between was just perfect. This was truly the best prelude to the house party… and unbelievably made me MORE excited!!! Thank you Amanda 🙂
