Teenagers

9 Mar

Grrr (2)

I’ve been a bit of a moody teenager this week. Why? Fuck knows. I’ve slept for essentially the whole week, i’ve eaten nothing but shitty junk food, as a result my skin is spottier than usual, i’ve barely spoken more then a couple of two-syllable words and i’ve just generally felt a bit shit. When explaining to my tutor why i hadn’t quite gotten as far along with my piece as i should i have i just wanted to stomp away and scream “YOU JUST DON’T GET ME eh heh heh heH”…. but on the plus side i’ve been enjoying some of the music i’d listen to after stomping up the stairs and flinging myself onto my bead with such fantastic apathy… here is my top 10 moody teenage tracks:

No.10 AFI Miss Murder

No.9 Thirty Seconds to Mars The Kill

Baby Sophz do you still have that Jared poster?!

No.8 Jeffree Star Plastic Surgery Slumber Party

I’m not sure why but we pretty much wanted to be Jeffree Star… not so moody teeanger but makes me smile when it comes up on shuffle. We had Jeffree Star themed party once… we made pink cupcakes with penises iced on them… we were awesome…

No.7 Mindless Self Indulgence Straight to Video

I had a huge crush on LynZ… not so sure why… but still resent my friends who met her at a gig i wasn’t invited to *sobs pathetically*

No.6 The Blackout I’m a riot? You’re a fucking riot.

We met these guys. They were pretty awesome. There’s a particularly sweaty photo of me with the lead singer somewhere…

No.5 Paramore Misery Business

Okay, so i liked my music whiney and self-involved…. whatcha gonna do about it bitch?!

No.4 Fall Out Boy Dance, Dance

No.3 Panic! at the Disco Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off

I’m not quite sure what the deal with really long, irrelevant, names for their songs was… but whatevs i like this one!

No.2 Wheatus Teenage Dirtbag

If you don’t like this song we can’t be friends.

No.1 My Chemical Romance Helena

My Chemical Romance were my favourite band. The were my first favourite band. I still listen to them. I owe them a lot… without them i don’t know if i would have gotten into music as much as i have, and well, they were the main reason i managed to acquire the school friends that i did…. most of whom i still rock out now with, so, yeah, thanks MCR. On a related note i’m married to a horse named Gerard Way, just thought ya’ll should know.

??????????

Fair to say my parents didn’t come up to my room much…

Oh, and if you were interested i’ve matured back into the beautiful unicorn that i am and am much happier 🙂

Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra – QMU, Glasgow – 25.10.2012

26 Oct

Last night i went to see Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra play Queen Margaret’s Union in Glasgow.

I jotted down this in my journal on the train ride home (i was too excited to do nothing!):

that. was. INCREDIBLE.

I enjoyed every single second, it was all i had imagined it would be and so much more. As ever my mind is blown. That fluttery-the-music-is-so-good-i-can-hardly-contain-this-intense-feeling is still tearing through my heart. The goosebumps have not faded from my body. My eyes are still wet tears. My ears are still ringing, and echo of wonder is singing through my brain and i’m smiling like an idiot.

Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra you have made me feel. And for that there is so amount of thanks i can express.

Instead all i can do is send you my love and hope it keeps you warm on this cold Glaswegian night!

And now for the SEXINESS!!!!!

WARNING these photos contain glitter, tight ass spangly pants, horns, Klaus Nomi corsets, and shitloads of sexy ass rockstars…. you have been warned!

I love it when there is a band playing while the fans are entering, it makes ME feel like a rockstar to enter to sexy live music!

Another wonderful thing about Amanda Palmer is that she always introduces her own support acts. It adds to the real humanity that she emanates, you can see just how much she is in love with the arts, with her art and it is pleasing that she in fact supports her own supports.

In this case she is introducing the magnificent Jherek Bischoff.

I’ve managed to find a clip of his “unique” performance of Eyes…. ba da ba um…..:

And what delight do we have next…. why it’s The Simple Pleasures.

And now…..

Meine Damen und Herren
Wie könnte ich meine Pulsadern aufschneiden, wenn ich nicht aufhören kann zu tanzen?
Unverfroren und ganz verloren, direkt aus New York City, the Grand Theft Orchester!!!!!!

Here is my clip of Smile (Pictures or it didn’t happen):

i love watching this and picking out my own images from the screen.

For those of you who don’t know, the images behind were part of the 7-image-upload task that Amanda set everybody going to the shows. Little did we know the images would be used in such an awesome way! With every beat of the drum a new image appears on the screen (and for each song (some songs) there is a corresponding image).

I’M NOT THE KILLING TYPE!

Here is a clip of The Killing Type i’ve found:

WON’T YOU MISS ME?

Musical chairs/instruments!

Missed me! Missed me!

What i love about these photos is, while Amanda and Michael are chasing each other round the stage, Chad and Jherek are just chilling in the centre, drinking beer, checking their instruments…

Catch me if you caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnn!

Here is a clip i’ve found of Missed Me… with musical instruments….. and Jim Bean!…. and Amanda’s Scottish accent!

I’ve found a clip of the stunningly emotional performance of Astronaut:

I love how photography can be so randomly manipulative… Amanda didn’t actual punch Chad in the face… but with this photo you wouldn’t know that!

Here is my little clip of Amanda covering Belle and Sebastian’s The Chalet Lines:

“Can I get some ukulele in the ears?” damn right you can Amanda!

These next set of pictures are all from, what is essentially my favourite part of the show, Bottomfeeder. Not only was i loving hearing it live but the performance level to this song was unbelievably beautiful. Amanda ran off stage to return moments later wearing a jacket with an organza train, at this point i didn’t know the purpose of this outfit other than it was pretty. The band struck up with Bottomfeeder and she made her way to the centre of the barrier. Midway through the song, at one of it’s peaks, she let herself fall into the welcoming crowd below and was passed around with the stream of organza billowing out behind her, engulfing everyone she passed. It was the moment that she was right in front of me that made this moment my favourite, staring eye to eye with this woman i idolize, this wonderful amazing woman grasping hold of my hand, passing over my head, organza trailing past my face, leaving me to feel.

I’ve found a clip of it. You can’t tell how amazing it was from this clip, but you can still be partially awestruck.

How does this woman keep on finding new ways to completely impress me. She will never run out of awesome.

Oh, Amanda i was one of those people you were talking about, so want to be involved in the moment but argh she is right there and i want to take a photo… argh… moment… capture… moment… argh i just touched Amanda Palmer and she is holding my hand…. argh….must capture this moment… IT WAS AMAZING!

Oh and i doodled this moment on the train (in my bored but frazzled and excited mind).

I can’t find a clip of it, but these next few photos are from the Yazoo’s In My Room cover:

And this is Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra in MY room! ^

I’ve managed to find a great clip of Melody Dean, including the best public service announcement ever, Amanda failing to strip out of her dress, an empty vessel, sexy ass dancing and Chad on trumpet!

Real rockstars drink wine!

I’ve managed to find a little clip of part of  Leed’s United:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo don’t leave us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And they didn’t. Appearing back up in the gallery, they performed a small set up high!

Here is my little clip of them covering St.James Infirmary Blues:

And then they dissapeared and i had to go and miss the outside ninja gig 😦 and catch the train home, however next time they are coming to Edinburgh 😀 and then it is HOUSE PARTY TIME!!!!

THEATRE IS EVIL

12 Sep

This album is everything and nothing, light and dark, beautiful and ugly, it will make you sing and become silent all at once, it will make you smile, grin from ear to ear and weep and dance, it’s everything you have ever wanted from music and everything you could never imagine.

It is incredible.

It is Amanda Fucking Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra.

10 star review…. fuck they can have all the stars in the sky for how this album makes me feel.

Every song in this album was written for me. Listening to it, you connect with each song in some small way. Go on listen. You will feel so connected, and i think that is where all the deep emotions (yeah those ones everyone is talking about on twitter) come from. Do It with a Rockstar i can identify with the desperation, the pleading for someone to drag you out of the loneliness, The Bed Song i can identify with the sadness, with the emptiness felt when nobody asks me how i feel, and i could go and describe my connection (your connection) to each song but all you need to do is listen and you’ll get it. Part of me wishes i didn’t connect with these songs so much, but then i get lost in the music and forget about that.

It is so different from anything Amanda has done before, yet at the same time it is so totally Amanda Palmer. She has taken her lyrical genious we all love and added colour from the past and experience from the future and a hell of a lot of synths!

Everything about this album is screaming performance, i’m so looking forward to the show! Last night they live-streamed the record realese show in New York. It was unfuckingbelievable. I was sitting in my bedroom, at 3am thinking this will be a bit dull ‘cos i’m not actually. Oh, how wrong was i. I felt like i was there. There was so much emotion. The atmosphere burning out from my computer screen was so intense and so real. I wept and danced and smiled and even found myself clapping at the end of songs. If you read this Amanda Palmer (or anyone involved in that show) thank you so much for those 3 hours of brillance, you guys rocked my bedroom.

Here is the saved stream (it’s over 3 hours long, but every second is worth watching):

Check the album artwork:

I didn’t see the evil at first. But look it at. Fuck it is EVIL! I love it, it’s so perfect.

Theatre is Evil was meant for the stage. I love it when Amanda Palmer goes all performance art, there are so few bands that do make that effort when doing a stage show. Yeah, concerts should be all about the music but theatre is evil, theatre is bad ass, we came to see a show! And so much of Theatre is Evil is all about the art. I’ve always known Amanda Palmer was an art chick, but with this album i have connected with her so much more with all the wonderful art rock love coming from this album. There is an art book (full of work inspired by the album), there was an art tour, there is art for the fans to create, we are always welcome, if not damn encouraged, to send our wonderful pieces of fan art into her and she always cares enough to tweet a picture. That is what is brilliant about Amanda Palmer, she cares. I will be able to tell you so much more about what this album and Amanda Palmer in general means to me, when i have the time to create a shit load of Theatre is Evil art!

If you are somehow unconvinced check out this picture of the sextastic band:

Still unconvinced (really even with that ^!)…. get your arse over HERE and download the album, hey you have no excuse not to, it’s only one dollar!

I feel like i’m part of something. I’ve still not decided what that something is, but i’m there.

Well that might have been a bit of a rambly review, but i just wanted the world to know how in love i am with Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra.

And now i retire to once again sit in the dark, lying on my bed listening to Thatre is Evil….. won’t you join me?

HEAR NO EVIL SEE NO EVIL WE ARE THE MEDIA!

*update* i’ve just read this review from blogcritics and this quote is amazing “she does have an amazing voice. It can float between a caress and a battle cry in a second. She can charm the pants off you one moment and burn paint off a battleship in the next. She soars up the scale like a mezzo soprano at The Met and growls out lyrics like she learned how to sing at the knee of Johnny Rotten” oh and this bit too “A life being led on a knife’s edge might be a little more dangerous but it also lets you know you’re alive. Listening to Theatre Is Evil is far more dangerous than the music you normally hear, but it lets you know you’re alive.”

I’m sitting in a box.

19 Aug

Today we went to go see Nothing is Really Difficult inside The Box by Theatergroep WAK.

Performed in a life-sized wooden box. A show about nothing. Three men full of self mockery and vicarious shame. Male poetry for men and women, without words. Winner of the Adelaide Fringe Award for Best Theatre Production, 2011.

Why? Well, as we were standing looking up at the sign and trying to pick a show, i noticed the name and remember a tweet from Amanda Palmer, saying how much she had enjoyed it.

So, to The Box we hurried!

The Box is a custom built box, situated just outside of George Square, and is… well… a box. From outside all you see is box, and inside all you see is a box! but with a set of staircase-like seating and that glorious woody smell.

We were running a little late, and although the show doesn’t start until you are inside The Box, the actors hang around outside being entertaining and handing out flyers. Wooden flyers.

We filed into the box, took our seats, the lights went out and we waited in the dark. From under the stage appears a light between the wooden slits, and then banging from below and the light moves along the stage. This continues the whole way across, until a corner of the stage lifts up and out pops a lone figure carrying a lantern. The show continues in odd bursts of movement, leaping, dancing, jumping and a hell of a lot of running around. It is, as described, about nothing at all but is mocking and funny and really quite clever.

Wanna go see it? Nothing is Really Difficult on in The Box just outside George Square at 15:30, 17:00 or 18:30 and runs until 26th August 2012.

Thanks Amanda Palmer for this recommendation, it was glorious!

And alla Amanda Palmer i have deemed it #AFPart

p.s. all image (bar the #afpart one) are not my own and if you wanna claim credit just hit me up and i’ll be happy to pop in your name 🙂

*update* while looking for more information about this show, i found this article by Sunday’s Child about promoting shows, check it out here.

An Evening with Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer at The Queen’s Hall on 12.8.2012

13 Aug

Last night i went to the totally and utterly wonderful An Evening with Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer.

It was so good that after the show had finished and i was sitting on my bus, i couldn’t stop smiling…. so much so, people started to look at me funny.

First on stage was Andrew O’Neill. A wonderfully funny man. I forgot to take pictures of him. I know. Useless. But he was on early and i wan’t quite with it at that point…. or i was distracted… or something. Anyway, go see his show! And you can find out what he looks like for yourself Andrew O’Neill is Easily Distracted

Next up was Michael Pope.

Who i had heard little bits about, mainly from the twitterings of Amanda Palmer giving the both live in The Cloud Club. All i really new was “he’s that film guy” so it was interesting to see what he was about on stage.

He did seem a little nervous, but completely made up for it by being really funny and playing with poor unsuspecting audience members on stage.

I’ll plug his show too Michael Pope is Gay for Pay mostly because i really want to go and see it too!

These photos are for Michael Pope’s mother:

(although this shot is darkened, i love it, it’s quite ghostly)

And without further ado……………… AMANDA PALMER AND NEIL GAIMAN!

Yay!

They opened with such a beautiful version of Makin’ Whoopee and if i can find (or if you know where one is) a filming of it i will re-post.

Every Amanda Palmer show i’ve been to has been glorious but it was interesting having it formatted with both Palmer and Gaiman. In all honesty i went for the Amanda Palmerness, i assumed it would be a “i went for the Amanda Palmer and stayed for the Neil Gaiman” kinda thing but they both work so brilliantly together, through songs and stories and poetry and even their little quips and marital banter on stage!

I’m really glad they brought the show over to Edinburgh and i feel really lucky to have seen it.

Anyway, enough of my loved up rambles, enjoy some pretty pictures:

Mikelanglo doing some great whistling…. oh….. go see his show too: Mikelanglo The Balkan Elvis

Ooo i found this little film of Amanda  reading her poem Broken Heart Stew while Neil plays Bloom on the ipad (filmed by Skerrylight on youtube):

I’m so glad she played Coin-Operated Boy 🙂 it’s my favourite Dresden Dolls song, and here is a film i found of it (filmed by ubernell on youtube):

This is the very talented Lady Rizo, who beautifully sang Gaiman’s I Google You (a song i really love, mostly the lyrics. Was just about to say go and google them and giggled at the irony, but yeah go google them!) and guess what, you can go see her show too: Lady Rizo

Here is another wee film i found of Amanda performing The Bed Song. I don’t think i’ve blogged about this song yet, but i must at some point, it’s very sad and very beautiful and one of few songs that has made me cry in a public space the first time i heard it, and sitting there in the darkened rows of seats i did feel huge warm tears sliding down my face (filmed by queenshalledinburgh on youtube):

There is something about this photo^ that i really love. It deserves a wonderful witty caption… but i ain’t so good at them! COMPETITION! So, best caption you can come up with, hit me up…. and you could win a signed print of the image with your caption penned in! Either leave a comment on this post of tweet me @chloehenderson9 or email me at chloehen21@aol.com and i’ll pick a winner by the end of this month!

Here is my little film of Amanda playing Map of Tasmania:

And like the awesomest awesome people that they are Neil and Amanda hung around after the show for a signing 🙂 This is the reason i find myself wandering into the realms of Palmer/Gaiman fangirl, they care about us!

Yeah, this picture is of Amanda eating a twix…. which she gave me a piece of 🙂 something about that makes me really happy 🙂

oh and i gave her art………… this art:

i think she liked it 🙂

i hope she liked it 🙂

i want to make and give her something more awesome at the house party… so Amanda if you read this be excited!

Anyhoo, the concert was awesome, the artists were awesome, the crowd was awesome, life is awesome!

Bitter Ruin – The Art School, Glasgow – 10.8.2012

11 Aug

Last night i went to see Bitter Ruin at The Art School in Glasgow.

It was bloody brilliant!

No. It was fucking yaldi!!!

Bravo old chaps. Bravo!

But before the beautiful Bitter Ruin hit the stage we had a wonderful little set from Hannah O’Reilly

3 cd’s bought and added to my favourites 🙂

If there is one thing you do today, go and download or at least listen to her made up song Meryl Streep  it is fanfuckingtastic!

Here are some pretty little pictures of Hannah:

And now………. BITTER RUIN!!!

It was a beautiful wee set, and if you join their mailing list (and are from Scotland) they will hopefully come back! And you want that! Yes. You do.

Enjoy some awesome pictures:

I’m so excited for the new album now!

Argh! this person’s head! Right in my way!

Although this shot is a little blurry, i love the stare!

My only good shot of Ben… he was standing just out of focus the whole time!

And as a really great end to the set, Bitter Ruin invited the whole crowd up onto stage with them to enjoy an acoustic version of A Brand New Me which i’ve filmed (apologies for the dodgy camera angles, i was a little preoccupied!):

Go and buy all their songs and merch and everything and all of it! and love it!

Go…. here….. now!

Gloriously fantastically awesome show. For ya’ll who found this blog randomly, it is a spin off blog from my main one: Chloe Henderson

I wanted to keep this blog, which is about my cultural loves, ie. music, film, literature, etc. and my other blog, which is more about my creative pursuits, my world of learning and all the other arty bits and pieces that I fill my life with, separate…. it makes it easier to organize it all in my mind.

Anyhoo…. if you haven’t already head over to Chloe Henderson to check out some of my art 🙂

Here is a drawing of me looking cute in a ballet outfit to start you off:
