Psycho

23 Sep

This song is so, oddly, but wonderfully suited to Neil Gaiman (…not that i’m calling him a psycho!)… the english accent, and it sounds like something he could have written with all the twists throughout the song as well as the passively dramatic ending. I love it. Especially this video… something about it says psycho!

Wow. Just wow.

This new video for Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra’s song The Killing Type is unbelievable.

If you wanna know the beautiful story behind this song, head over to Amanda’s blog: The Killing Type Vivesected

Lyrics

i wouldn’t kill to win a war

i don’t get what they do it for

it’s all so terribly vague

i see the pictures from a thousand years of battle and i think it’s such a bore

i walk new orleans with a knife

like mackie hidden out of sight

but i’d be useless if they jumped

i’m really not the killing type

i’m not the killing type i’m not the killing type i’m not i’m not i’m not the killing type i’m not

i’ve got a picture of your mum

before the war when she was young

she’s got an etching to her right

i think it’s funny that she’s looking to the left and it’s her son

i wouldn’t kill to get you back

and i’ve officially been asked

i couldn’t kill to save a life

i’d rather die a peaceful piece of shit-bait shame-filled coward

thanks

i’m not the killing type i’m not the killing type i’m not i’m not i’m not the killing type i’m not

but i would kill to make you feel

i don’t mean kill someone for real

i couldn’t do that, it is wrong

but i can say it in a song a song a song

and i’m saying it NOW

i’m saying it SO

even if you never hear this song somebody else would know

i’m saying it NOW

i’m saying it SO

even if you never hear this song somebody else will know know know know

i just can’t explain how good it feels i just can’t explain how good it feels i just can’t explain how good it feels i just can’t describe

i once stepped on a dying bird

it was a mercy killing i couldn’t sleep for a week

i kept feeling its breaking bones

i heard that if you see a star at night

and the conditions are just right

and you are standing on a cliff

then you can close your eyes and make a wish and take a step and change somebody’s life

i’m not the killing type i’m not the killing type i’m not i’m not i’m not the killing type i’m not

but i would kill to make you feel

i’d kill to move your face an inch

i see you staring into space

i wanna stick my fist into your mouth and twist your arctic heart

yes i would kill to make you feel

i don’t mean kill someone for real

i couldn’t do that, it is wrong but i can say it in a song a song a song

and i’m saying it NOW

i’m saying it SO

even if you never hear this song somebody else would know

i’m saying it NOW

i’m saying it SO

even if you never hear this song somebody else would know know know know

i just can’t explain how good it feels

i just can’t explain how good it feels

i just can’t explain how good it feels

i just can’t describe ibe ibe ibe DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE

i’m not the killing type.

THEATRE IS EVIL

12 Sep

This album is everything and nothing, light and dark, beautiful and ugly, it will make you sing and become silent all at once, it will make you smile, grin from ear to ear and weep and dance, it’s everything you have ever wanted from music and everything you could never imagine.

It is incredible.

It is Amanda Fucking Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra.

10 star review…. fuck they can have all the stars in the sky for how this album makes me feel.

Every song in this album was written for me. Listening to it, you connect with each song in some small way. Go on listen. You will feel so connected, and i think that is where all the deep emotions (yeah those ones everyone is talking about on twitter) come from. Do It with a Rockstar i can identify with the desperation, the pleading for someone to drag you out of the loneliness, The Bed Song i can identify with the sadness, with the emptiness felt when nobody asks me how i feel, and i could go and describe my connection (your connection) to each song but all you need to do is listen and you’ll get it. Part of me wishes i didn’t connect with these songs so much, but then i get lost in the music and forget about that.

It is so different from anything Amanda has done before, yet at the same time it is so totally Amanda Palmer. She has taken her lyrical genious we all love and added colour from the past and experience from the future and a hell of a lot of synths!

Everything about this album is screaming performance, i’m so looking forward to the show! Last night they live-streamed the record realese show in New York. It was unfuckingbelievable. I was sitting in my bedroom, at 3am thinking this will be a bit dull ‘cos i’m not actually. Oh, how wrong was i. I felt like i was there. There was so much emotion. The atmosphere burning out from my computer screen was so intense and so real. I wept and danced and smiled and even found myself clapping at the end of songs. If you read this Amanda Palmer (or anyone involved in that show) thank you so much for those 3 hours of brillance, you guys rocked my bedroom.

Here is the saved stream (it’s over 3 hours long, but every second is worth watching):

Check the album artwork:

I didn’t see the evil at first. But look it at. Fuck it is EVIL! I love it, it’s so perfect.

Theatre is Evil was meant for the stage. I love it when Amanda Palmer goes all performance art, there are so few bands that do make that effort when doing a stage show. Yeah, concerts should be all about the music but theatre is evil, theatre is bad ass, we came to see a show! And so much of Theatre is Evil is all about the art. I’ve always known Amanda Palmer was an art chick, but with this album i have connected with her so much more with all the wonderful art rock love coming from this album. There is an art book (full of work inspired by the album), there was an art tour, there is art for the fans to create, we are always welcome, if not damn encouraged, to send our wonderful pieces of fan art into her and she always cares enough to tweet a picture. That is what is brilliant about Amanda Palmer, she cares. I will be able to tell you so much more about what this album and Amanda Palmer in general means to me, when i have the time to create a shit load of Theatre is Evil art!

If you are somehow unconvinced check out this picture of the sextastic band:

Still unconvinced (really even with that ^!)…. get your arse over HERE and download the album, hey you have no excuse not to, it’s only one dollar!

I feel like i’m part of something. I’ve still not decided what that something is, but i’m there.

Well that might have been a bit of a rambly review, but i just wanted the world to know how in love i am with Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra.

And now i retire to once again sit in the dark, lying on my bed listening to Thatre is Evil….. won’t you join me?

HEAR NO EVIL SEE NO EVIL WE ARE THE MEDIA!

*update* i’ve just read this review from blogcritics and this quote is amazing “she does have an amazing voice. It can float between a caress and a battle cry in a second. She can charm the pants off you one moment and burn paint off a battleship in the next. She soars up the scale like a mezzo soprano at The Met and growls out lyrics like she learned how to sing at the knee of Johnny Rotten” oh and this bit too “A life being led on a knife’s edge might be a little more dangerous but it also lets you know you’re alive. Listening to Theatre Is Evil is far more dangerous than the music you normally hear, but it lets you know you’re alive.”
